On-Site Weather Station

We recently purchased a weather station that tracks weather on property. In the past, we relied on the nearest reliable station, which was a few miles away. Now, we have updated weather data, every 5 seconds, which is occurring on property.

There are a few things that make this seemingly small addition exciting:

  • First, the cost of weather station technology has drastically fallen. What was once a common 5 figure purchase for a golf course, now can be purchased for less than a thousand dollars.
  • Our new station records all the data we need, and it’s stored online. It can be accessed anywhere, from anyone (including you!), at any time.
  • We will now have data, including rainfall, temperature, humidity, wind speed, dew points, etc., to assist with making agronomic decisions.
  • Since the data is uploaded every 5 seconds, and taken on property, the irrigation system can be adjusted or shut off, remotely, if we receive rain during a scheduled run time.
  • Forecasts are given based off our current conditions and exact location.

  • Search for Midland Hills Turf Dept or our weather station ID: KMNMINNE366 in the search bar on the upper right hand corner of the homepage.
  • You can also get the Weather Underground App for your mobile device(s) and access the weather station.
  • Make our weather station your saved location so you can check the weather on property, whenever and wherever you are.

There are still a few kinks to work out. You may notice that the location on the weather underground map is incorrect, but our weather is reporting from our location. Since the station is new, it sometimes goes off-line for a few minutes before it comes back on. All of these details will be corrected over time.

If you enjoy weather, you’ll enjoy knowing the weather that’s actually happening on your golf course!

Enjoy,

Mike Manthey

    Great, Mike.

Does the new WeatherStation tell us when the golf course will open?

      Dan,

Unfortunately we didn’t purchase the high-end model that predicts such!

    Thanks Mike,

Nice feature to be able to have. I was only able to find it based on the Station ID, but now have it as a favorite. I’ll need to check it out the next time my drive on 9 ends up down by where it looks to be situated. Appreciate the great job you do in keeping the membership informed on everything that is happening and the thought behind it.

      Matt,

Thanks for reading the post and finding interest. Yes, the weather station is in your wheelhouse on #9, come down and check it out. Hopefully it won’t be much longer of a wait to get everyone out on the course. The weather just doesn’t seem to want to turn the corner. Thanks for the heads up on the search bar on Wunderground’s website, it was finding it through the general name prior, but like I said, some more kinks to work out. Good to know you have it favorited.

      Thanks Matt,
      Mike
